Beks drops debut EP Hard Gloss and new single
London-based artist Beks has released her debut EP Hard Gloss, a bold and stylised club-pop collection that blends emotional intensity with fearless production. Featuring the new single Who You Kidding, the EP showcases Beks’ evolution from behind-the-scenes writer to fully realised solo artist.
Beks created the EP after stepping away from writing camps to take full control of her sound. Working with producer PALMR, she crafted a cinematic, rhythm-driven aesthetic that reflects her personal and artistic independence. Mixing was handled by Tim Rowkins (Rina Sawayama, Lady Gaga) and mastering by Robin Schmidt (Charli XCX).
“I’d spent so much time writing for and with others, I needed to find my own voice again,” says Beks. “There was no safety net this time. Just me, backing myself. Hard Gloss is what came out of that.”
New single Who You Kidding leads the EP with its pulsing electro-pop energy and chic vocal delivery. The track explores the emotional stories people construct to survive, and the moment those narratives begin to break down.
“It’s the sound of high-voltage empowerment,” adds Beks. “Part of it was written under a rusty umbrella on my manager’s balcony in the middle of a lightning storm in London. I dropped all creative filters and let the truth drive the song. That bridge? It’s my proudest moment.”
The EP also includes recent singles I Knew A Girl, Melodrama and Butter, each further defining Beks’ distinctive sound — emotionally honest, stylistically sharp and built for the dancefloor.
Born in Australia and now based in London, Beks has complemented her early releases with some big live moments such as supporting Sophie Ellis-Bextor. A queer artist fully embedded within the LGBTQIA+ community, she has also been a regular performer at Australia’s Mardi Gras, wowed the main stage at last year’s Amsterdam Pride, and celebrated her anthemic track ‘All The Good Boys Are Gay’ with a launch show at the Tipsy Bear, the queer heart of Berlin’s Prenzlauer Bergdistrict.
